You Wait: A Poem for the New Year

You Wait
(a poem for the New Year)

Like hands bidding me
to come and see
you offer me again-
time

What shall be even you
do not know
So like some child
you say,
“come play”

This life is not some
commodity ordered
from a warehouse
far away

And yet it is a gift
not arranged by
my hand but
crafted by
another

So I step gently
your way
not knowing but
believing
And I hear you whisper,
“to live is grace”
